Add an HTTPS record

Increase security and reduce page load times on your website by adding an HTTPS record to your DNS zone file. Every time you load a web page in your browser, the browser goes through a series of checks to determine what service protocol it should use to load the page, either http:// or https://. HTTPS records explicitly tell the browser to make the connection over HTTPS, removing the extra checks upfront and helping pages load faster.

Note: GoDaddy only supports HTTPS records in Alias mode, so the priority of the record is always set to 0.
  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy Domain Portfolio. (Need help logging in? Find your username or password.)
  2. Select alt name for the image Domain Edit Options next to your domain and then select Edit DNS. You may need to scroll down to see Edit DNS.

  4. Select HTTPS from the Type menu options.
  5. Enter the details for your new HTTPS record:
    • Name: The hostname for the HTTPS record. Type @ to put the record on your root domain, or enter a subdomain prefix such as www.
    • Priority: The priority is always set to 0 because we currently only support HTTPS records in Alias mode.
    • Value: Enter a domain name the HTTPS record will point to.
    • TTL: Determines how long the server should cache information. The default setting is 1 hour.
  6. Select Add record to save your new HTTPS record.

Most DNS updates take effect within an hour, but could take up to 48 hours to update globally.
