Reset WordPress permalinks to fix the 404 error

WordPress permalinks are permanent web address URLs for your posts and pages. Sometimes, when they are not saved correctly, posts and pages on your site can return the 404 error instead of displaying content. You can resolve this by switching to a different permalink structure and then changing it back in the WordPress dashboard.

Warning: Always make a backup of your site before troubleshooting or making any changes.
  1. Sign in to WordPress.
  2. In the left-side menu, select Settings > Permalinks.
  3. Under Permalink Settings, select a different permalink structure, and then select Save Changes. This will resolve the 404 error.
  4. Select the previous permalink structure and then select Save changes. This will revert permalinks back to the preferred structure.

Note: If you want to reset permalinks to the default WordPress structure, choose the Plain permalink structure.

The 404 error on your posts and pages should be resolved now, and URLs on your site should display the chosen permalink structure.
